YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. raised a total of $193,191 from the 'Bolt Gold' Nissan GT-R and Bolt Merchandise online charity auction held on eBay from November 22 to December 4, 2012.  All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Usain Bolt Foundation to help with its mission of creating educational and cultural opportunities for children and young people in Usain Bolt's home country of Jamaica.

Competition for the one-off 'Bolt Gold' Nissan GT-R was fierce, with offers stemming from around the globe during the ten-day auction, culminating in a winning bid of $187,100.

More than 100 people also competed for nine items of Bolt merchandise on the auction block, including racing helmets, special driving suits and boots, which brought in a total of $6,091.

"In doing good with this donation to the Usain Bolt Foundation, Nissan will help children in Jamaica do better as they strive to realize their dreams for the future," commented Nissan's Chief Operating Officer, Toshiyuki Shiga.

In October 2012, Usain Bolt was appointed Nissan's honorary "Director of Excitement" as a brand spokesman for the company's new "WHAT IF_" global brand campaign.

Commenting on the donation from Nissan, Usain Bolt said, "My partnership with Nissan greatly benefits the work of my Foundation. This donation will help many kids get access to better facilities, play areas and educational materials in Jamaica. I am delighted to be working with Nissan to do this."

The new owner of the "Bolt Gold" Nissan GT-R from Australia said, "The Nissan GT-R just gets better and better and more refined each year, and the fact that this gold GT-R also celebrates the incredible achievements of the great Usain Bolt makes it something very special indeed."

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - A device enabling you to learn in your sleep and a low-cost system for improving health care in developing countries are steps closer to reality, thanks to Nissan. Today Nissan announced that Andrew Saldana of Downey, Calif., Ryan Helsel of Durham, N.C., and Kyle Vath of Cincinnati are the winners of the "Nissan Innovation Garage" campaign, a social media movement designed to inspire and celebrate innovation and provide funding to launch new ideas.

Earlier this fall, more than 15,000 people answered the question, "Wouldn't It Be Cool If ____?", by submitting their best creative ideas at NissanInnovationGarage.com. Nissan is presenting its grand prize winners, Saldana and Helsel, with $50,000 grants and 2013 Nissan Altimas in recognition of their submissions, which were chosen as the best two concepts by a panel of engineering and product development experts in collaboration with Nissan executive leadership. Ideas were evaluated according to their originality, impact and feasibility. Nissan will work with both winners to promote their ideas using Kickstarter.com, a funding platform for creative projects. The company will also award Vath a 2013 Nissan Altima for his idea, which fans selected as their favorite.

"We've been impressed by the great ideas that were submitted," said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America. "The team at Nissan enjoyed providing a platform for these innovations to surface. We're looking forward to seeing where they may lead. It's inspiring to see people fired up to find ways to make the world a better place."

Saldana's idea, "Dreamwork," is a device that promotes learning while sleeping. Helsel's submission, "Low-Tech Bedsore Prevention," is an affordable system to reduce the occurrence of bedsores for patients in developing countries. Vath's concept, "Non-Emergency Medical Response Unit," is intended to reduce inappropriate use of hospital emergency room services. Participants submitted nearly 33,000 ideas for innovations during the course of the six-week campaign.

Building on its "Innovation That Excites" philosophy, Nissan’s hunt for the next great innovation was inspired by the all-new fifth generation Altima - the most innovative Altima yet - which promises to shake up the mid-size sedan segment with its interior  innovations and styling. Among the 2013 Altima's many attributes are its best-in-segment fuel economy of 38 mpg highway (2.5-liter engine), new premium exterior styling, an upscale interior with premium materials, including NASA-inspired "zero-gravity" front seats, and an outstanding balance of ride comfort, stability and a fun-to-drive demeanor. Altima features Nissan "signature innovations" including, Easy Fill Tire Alert, which sounds the car horn when tires are being inflated to signal proper pressure, and Smart Auto Headlights, which turns on the headlights when the windshield wipers are on.

Their expertise is making sure that content gets from cameras into the post production process safely. They focus on building dailies, which is making copies of the film shot on set in the course of one day for the director and producer to watch and analyze. This work requires them to be constantly on the move.

"We looked at a lot of vehicles to find out which one kind of best suited our needs and the reason we chose the Nissan NV was it was economical, and fit into our business model. It was extremely flexible," said Jason Brown, co-founder of PrePost Data.

Brown said the van is attractive, but more importantly, spacious and smooth on the road. The tall roof allows for directors and producers to stay standing while inside the vehicle. The smooth ride allows their equipment to stay secure while driving hundreds of miles cross country. And the sleek appearance allows them to keep a consistent positive image.

"When people come into the van they are just wowed," said Andrew Guerrero, a digital imaging technician with PrePost Data.

Guerrero and Brown said they regularly drive their NV across the nation from Los Angeles to Savannah, Ga. They typically change locations four to five times a day and often change climates just as often. The Nissan NV has proven reliable for long road trips and luxurious for stationary shoots. The people at PrePost Data said no other vehicle suited their needs so nicely.

OPPAMA and ATSUGI, Japan – On the eve of the Nissan LEAF's second birthday, some owners from overseas visited Japan to see the factories where the batteries and electric vehicles were produced.

Since December 2010, Nissan has delivered more than 18,000 LEAFs to U.S. customers and more than 46,000 worldwide, making it the most successful 100% electric vehicle in history. Production of the world's leading EV is now going global, but these owners from the U.S. and Europe offered the following comments on their visit to Japan:

Gary Lieber, Nissan LEAF Owner, San Francisco BayLEAFs

"I'm like a kid in a candy store to be honest with you. This is pretty cool, no doubt about it. I have always wondered how these things are put together and just to see it – it's like a concert, a symphony of having these things put together – how everything's in motion and it's just all coming together and a brand new car spits out at the end.

I'm the co-founder of the San Francisco BayLEAFs. We're a LEAF owners' association based in San Francisco. We've got around 300 members, and we believe we're the largest LEAF owners' association in the world.

I drive the LEAF for a variety of reasons. I think it is the 21st Century transportation. We love the car because it is so economical. It's so quiet. It's environmentally responsible."

Shannon Monroe, Nissan LEAF Owner, Florida

"The factory is amazing, the automation that's here, the technology – the testing of the batteries and the design and assembly, to actually meet the people who are inventing this technology that's changing the world.

I love the robots. It's great to see them all running around carrying the batteries back and forth. The fact that they're going to use the batteries from the LEAF in the robots is great, too.

I was one of the first LEAF owners in America and first LEAF owner in Florida. I think it's time for a change. It's amazing that Nissan has taken the risk to give me a choice. I can choose a gas car from them or I can choose an electric car. My son who is one-year old has never been in a gas-powered car because of Nissan, and the risks they took to produce this car."

Edwin Glaser, Nissan LEAF Owner, The Netherlands

"I've never been in a factory like this before, and what I notice so much is that all the cars are between each other. I thought it would be one line for just one car, and another one. But you can also see the LEAF, which we are interested in, being built up through the process and its wonderful. There are a lot of levels. You see cars flying over your head almost, going in and out. It's really great."

Nissan: Renault-Nissan and Russian Technologies Create Joint Venture to Finalize Strategic Partnership with AVTOVAZ

This release contains: 1 Related Document

  • Renault-Nissan and Russian Technologies create joint venture to accelerate product launches and technology transfer to AVTOVAZ, Russia's largest carmaker.

  • Renault-Nissan will get a majority stake in the joint venture, called Alliance Rostec Auto BV, which will control AVTOVAZ, leader of the Russian auto market.

  • This deal promotes Renault, Nissan and LADA's improved synergy and product development in the fast-growing Russian market.

MOSCOW - The Renault-Nissan Alliance and Russian Technologies State Corporation have created a joint venture which will hold their entire equity interests in AVTOVAZ and serve as a stable, long-term controlling shareholder for Russia's largest car company and the owner of the LADA brand.

Renault-Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn announced the creation of Alliance Rostec Auto BV today at a ceremony in Moscow with Sergey Chemezov, General Director of Russian Technologies and Chairman of the Board of AVTOVAZ, and Igor Komarov, President of AVTOVAZ.

"Today's historic agreement is a win-win-win for all companies: Renault, Nissan and AVTOVAZ. It is a significant new chapter in an already solid partnership," Ghosn said. "The joint venture will help accelerate our Russian market offensive. It will support the competitiveness of AVTOVAZ, Russia's auto industry leader."

According to the terms of the deal, Renault-Nissan will invest RUB23 billion (US$ 742 million). The investment will give Renault-Nissan 67.13% of the joint venture by mid-2014. The joint venture will then hold 74.5% of AVTOVAZ.

Renault, which purchased 25% of AVTOVAZ in 2008 and then helped AVTOVAZ in its successful turnaround, will invest about RUB11.3 billion (US$366 million) in the joint venture and plans to own 50.1% in the joint venture by June 2014. Nissan which did not previously own a stake in AVTOVAZ, will invest RUB11.7 billion (US$376 million) and plans to own 17.03% in the joint venture by the same period.

Over the same period, Russian Technologies will hold 32.87% of the joint venture.

As part of the deal, Russian Technologies is restructuring its outstanding loans with AVTOVAZ with RUB8 billion (US$258 million) proceeds from the anticipated sale of AVTOVAZ's non-core assets being used to repay part of Russian Technologies loans. The remainder of circa RUB46 billion (US$1.48 billion) of interest-free debt is being extended until 2032. This gives AVTOVAZ a strong balance sheet with no liquidity constraints.

By the completion of the deal in 2014, Alliance Rostec Auto BV will have bought out all the shares in AVTOVAZ currently owned by the company Troika Dialog Investment Ltd.

The transaction is subject to applicable conditions precedent, which are expected to be promptly satisfied.

Together in Europe's economic engine of growth

The Alliance Rostec Auto BV board will be focused on the key shareholder decisions at AVTOVAZ and will be the forum of discussion for the Alliance and Russian Technologies.

As part of the deal, Renault-Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn will become Chairman of the Board of Alliance Rostec Auto BV. The Board of Directors will be composed of:

  • Three representatives of the Renault-Nissan Alliance: Dominique Thormann, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Renault; Joseph Peter, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Nissan; and Bruno Ancelin, Senior Vice President and Chairman Eurasia Region, Renault;

  • Two representatives of Russian Technologies: Sergey Chemezov, General Director; and Igor Zavyalov, Deputy General Director.

The AVTOVAZ board will be increased from 12 to 15 members. Renault-Nissan will have eight board members. The candidates will be approved at the extraordinary AVTOVAZ shareholder meeting on February 12, 2013. Sergey Chemezov will remain Chairman of the Board of AVTOVAZ and will alternate with Carlos Ghosn as Vice Chairman starting in June 2013.

"The Russian automotive market is on the edge of becoming No. 1 in Europe in terms of new vehicle sales, " said the General Director of Russian Technologies Sergey Chemezov. By 2020, AVTOVAZ, together with its partners, expects to produce, annually, over 1 million cars matching the highest world standards. Thanks to the partnership with the Renault-Nissan Alliance, new modern and highly paid working places will be created for the inhabitants of Togliatti and the region".

The deal comes eight months after President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin inaugurated an assembly complex with manufacturing capacity of 350,000 vehicles per year in Togliatti in Russia's Samara region. The complex will become home to one of the largest platform-sharing programs in the Renault-Nissan Alliance. It has already started the production of LADA Largus in spring 2012 while the manufacturing of the new Nissan Almera was launched just yesterday with full ramp-up in spring 2013. Production will soon span five models across three brands - LADA, Renault and Nissan. Investments in this project will total about €400 million.

The three partners also build cars at plants in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Izhevsk (700 kms north of Togliatti, acquired by AVTOVAZ in 2012). Each of these plants will continue to benefit from new projects and investments.

With the Togliatti improvements and those planned at other manufacturing complexes, Renault-Nissan and AVTOVAZ will have a Russian capacity of at least 1.7 million cars per year starting in 2016.

"Strengthening of our partnership is a logical next step of our joint operation. Yesterday, AVTOVAZ became home to multiple brands with the production of the first Nissan model in Togliatti. Our rapid integration will improve the efficiency of our common efforts and increase our market share," said Igor Komarov, President of AVTOVAZ.

Total automotive industry volume in Russia last year was 2.65 million vehicles, including light commercial vehicles. In 2012, the volume is expected to increase to 2.9 million units.

Russia is the third largest market for the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
The Alliance sold 878,990 cars in Russia last year - including 578,387 LADAs, for a market share of nearly 33 percent.
